Curtain Call: Finding Joy Beyond Work
What do you do for fun outside of your regular working hours? What passions lift you up when the world feels heavy, the days stretch long, and the monotony of life starts to settle in?
For me, I find solace, comfort, and encouragement in the arts. I stepped into my first dance class when I was five years old, and I’ve been performing ever since — in dance studios, on theater stages, and in choral productions. Creativity has always been my anchor.
Since moving to Rhode Island, I’ve found a true second home at a local community theater. We recently wrapped our fall show, Matilda, and it was everything you want a community musical to be: fun-filled, fast-paced, and genuinely joyful for all ages.
And even though I’m exhausted after performing five shows in four days, I already miss the cast and crew. We had the BEST time rehearsing, laughing, and building something special together. Walking into rehearsal each night felt like a breath of fresh air — especially during such a turbulent time in the world.
What about you? How do you unwind after work? Maybe you play pickleball in a local league, meet friends for mahjong, or attend a book club in your neighborhood.
Or perhaps you prefer quiet, solo rituals like knitting, baking, or sinking into a good book. As much as I love being surrounded by my theater friends, I also crave alone time to read, journal, and reflect on my day.
No matter what you choose to do before or after work, I hope you’ll pursue the passions that light you up. Those small moments of joy and creativity help keep us grounded, energized, and grateful for the beauty and magic woven into everyday life.
